As I write this we have just passed through York rail station where I was able to glance out of the window to see a small fleet of Hertz vehicles ready to pick up. So if you are picking up away from an airport try and be accurate with the time and if possible give the arriving train or ferry details. This will help staff at the location desk anticipate your arrival and if you are delayed they will wait for your arrival to a certain point (normally an hour after pick up time if the office is scheduled to be closed).
Many customers after a long or late arriving flight prefer to taxi to their hotel and pick up in the morning. Why not take the pressure of yourself by doing this and the additional day saved in the rental period will certainly contribute to the cost of a relaxing night in a hotel in Stansted for example.
