Picking Up Your Hire Car
We at Automatic Car Hire know that not all of you are car hire experts. Here we have set out a guide to picking up your car – we have based this one at an airport but the same logic applies to any location.
Pre-Desk Check
Voucher (printed confirmation sent by the supplier)
Credit Card (in the name of the main driver)
Full driving licence (both parts if you have them)
Reading Glasses (to check any small print when signing anything)
At the Desk
You are at the desk which means you have read your voucher and followed the signs or directions to the supplier shown. If you have taken any third party insurances such as our deals with Insurance4carhire.com then you should refuse all insurances to the coverage you have (so with us and Insurance4carhire.com everything!)
If though you have not taken any third party insurances please listen carefully to the representative. They will detail to you the excess on the vehicle to drive away now and what insurances are available through the supplier to reduce or remove said excess.
CDW – Crash Damage Waiver – Normally the maximum that can be taken from your card should the car be damaged or wrote off.
Theft – Again the maximum amount that can be taken should the car be broken into or vandalized.
Please bear in mind that no matter your insurances you will be required to produce a credit card in the name of the main driver. The excess on the vehicle and a fuel deposit will be blocked on the card on check out, the money is not removed unless necessary. The block is then removed once the car is back and checked in.
Carefully read any insurance details and any paperwork requiring a signature. All Automatic Car Hire suppliers are reputable and carefully vetted but always read anything requiring a signature.
You may then be offered a choice of vehicles and if you are not asked then ask yourself! If there is a comparable vehicle then they will be happy to give you the choice – you may even get an upgrade!
At the desk ask the representative to talk you through any damage currently on the vehicle. These should be clearly marked on the rental agreement and signed by the representative.
At The Car
First of all check the outside of the car for any additional damage not shown on the rental agreement. Should you find anything alert the nearest representative and have it clearly added to the agreement.
Then follow the usual safety checks of the vehicle. Make sure all lights and indicators work, the tyres are sufficiently inflated, the water bottle is full and this plus the windscreen-wipers are functional. These checks are your responsibility before you drive.
If you are unhappy about anything with the vehicle then please alert the representative. Do not drive the vehicle until you are completely happy to do so.
